The islets of the Gulf of Morbihan

The Little Sea reveals a myriad of islands and islets, but only a few open their doors to visitors. If the two largest, Ile aux Moines and Arz, are easily accessible, others, more secret, will captivate curious minds. When the tide permits, set out on foot to discover the Tascon and Berder islands, or explore the more confidential gems of Gavrinis or Ilur.

 

BERDER ISLAND: This 23-hectare pearl, located to the west of Île aux Moines, is accessible from Lamor-Baden by an 80-meter causeway. Only the perimeter of the island, via the coastal path, is open to visitors, because Berder is part of the private islands of the Gulf of Morbihan. Enjoy a captivating stroll under pines, mimosas and even olive trees on the 2.5 km trail, offering exceptional panoramas of the gulf. At the end of the route, a chapel and a small boat cemetery are revealed.

 

ILUR AND GAVRINIS ISLANDS: Accessible by private boat or reduced-staff shuttle, the islands of Ilur and Gavrinis are worth the detour. The crossing to Gavrinis includes a guided tour of the Cairn, while for Ilur you will need your own boat.

 

ILUR ISLAND: Property of the Littoral Conservatory, Ilur Island remains a confidential island mainly covered with natural meadows and wild flowers. Attached to the municipal territory of the island of Arz, Ilur is not served by any shipping company. Only boaters will have the privilege of docking at the anchorage with their personal boat. Managed by the Gulf of Morbihan Regional Natural Park, Ilur is now occupied all year round by a caretaker who manages it. It guarantees its maintenance, ensures its preservation and welcomes stopover visitors. In the center there remains a hamlet of a few houses which was still inhabited until the 1950s, and which is currently being renovated.
