Tascon Island

Off the coast of Saint-Armel, Tascon Island invites you to a nature getaway, offering an exploration between green meadows and rocky foreshore. When the tide goes out, take the submersible passage and set off to discover the wild landscapes of the Tascon cove, surrounded by salt marshes. Connected to the town of Saint-Armel on the Rhuys peninsula, Tascon is the third island in the Gulf of Morbihan in terms of surface area. Despite its modest size, Tascon remains one of the few islands in the Gulf to be cultivated. Its meadows are home to majestic Charolais cows raised outdoors by a couple of farmers.

The island of Tascon has the particularity of being accessible at low tide by a submersible road that can be taken on foot, by bike, or by car. This causeway, also known as the Rodu Passage, extends over 400 meters and is discovered over a cycle of 4 to 5 hours depending on the tide. At the junction of this, from the southern tip of the island, a second 200-meter sand riffle opens up, joining the wild and preserved islet of Enézy.

Near the hamlet of Tascon, discover the farm of the Le Menach family, whose farm extends over the entire island, mainly made up of meadows. Take advantage of your visit to Tascon to meet this family and stock up on seasonal vegetables, eggs, and Charolais meat directly from the producer. Six families reside year-round on Tascon Island, which also has around twenty second homes. Today, the island has eight inhabitants year-round.

A true haven of peace for the thousands of birds that populate its cove and its immense herbarium (from November to January), the island is also a paradise for ornithology enthusiasts. It is a crucial feeding site for waterbirds, although shore fishing on the foreshore remains a popular activity, but can disrupt this ecosystem. To avoid any inconvenience linked to the tide, be sure to consult the timetables on the Gulf side, based on the time of low tide at the port of Logeo or port of Vannes, subtracting 2 hours from low tide and adding up to at 2 hours after this. You will have a range of 4 hours, more than enough to explore the island in complete peace of mind!
