Little sister of Île aux Moines, Arz remains a wild island ideal for sailing enthusiasts. Its coastal path allows for pleasant walking, offering the opportunity to take advantage of its beaches and coves for a swim near the central town. Nicknamed "Captains' Island", the island of Arz, a haven of peace in the heart of the Gulf of Morbihan, extends over 4 km long and 3 km wide, presenting a jagged coastline decorated with numerous coves ideal for swimming.

 

Less steep than its neighbor Ile aux Moines, Arz is easier to explore on foot. The 17 km coastal path offers sumptuous panoramas of the “small sea” and the islands of the Gulf of Morbihan which surround it. Let yourself be charmed by the gardens adorned with hydrangeas and camellias, the unmissable walk on the embankment of the Berno tide mill, and the visit to its picturesque village.

 

All year round, the Bateaux-Bus du Golfe company provides several daily rotations without reservation from the Vannes ferry terminal and the Séné slipway. The crossing, lasting 20 to 30 minutes, drops you off at the northern tip of the island of Arz. Two marked hiking trails facilitate discovery from the pier at Pointe de Béluré. Opt for walking if you want to go around the island via the coastal path, as bikes are not allowed there. However, you can explore the island of Arz by bike via inland paths, reaching a few beaches and the Pointe de Liuse in the south of the island.

 

Heritage lovers should not miss the two cultural sites of the island of Arz: the Berno tide mill and the Sailors and Captains museum. Also discover the Notre-Dame church and its 18th century priory, as well as a dolmen on the tip of Nioul.

 

 

The island of Arz offers a dozen exceptional viewpoints along the coastal path between the five points of Île aux Capitaines. You will be spoiled for choice for a swim among its eight beaches surrounding the island. Two sailing schools, located to the south of the town on Kérolan beach and to the west on Mounien beach, welcome the public only for courses including accommodation and catering on site. Accessible all year round with a direct maritime shuttle from the continent, the island of Arz is also served by several companies offering cruises and crossings in season.
