Ile aux Moines

Ile aux Moines, The Pearl of the Gulf of Morbihan

Nicknamed the “pearl of the gulf”, Île aux Moines remains the essential excursion during holidays in the Gulf of Morbihan. Its remarkable views, its charming lively town, its beaches and secret coves along the coastal path make it a true island gem. Nestled in the heart of the "little sea", Île aux Moines is just 5 minutes by boat from the mainland, extending in the shape of a cross 6 km long without exceeding 500 meters wide. Explore its trails to discover admirable panoramas over the gulf, between small beaches and woods with enchanting names.

How to get to Ile aux Moines?

The crossing from Port-Blanc to Baden, or from Port-Navalo to Arzon, takes you to the port of Lério in the northwest of the island, where you can explore "the pearl of the gulf" in part or in its entirety, depending on the time you have available. Very wooded, it seduces with the beauty of its coastal and inland landscapes, where the scent of pine trees mixes with the intoxicating scent of wisteria and hydrangeas.

The must-see places on Ile aux Moines

To the north, enjoy a swim on the large beach, a gourmet break in the village of the island, or go on an excursion to Pointe du Trec’h or Brouël. To the south, discover the megalithic sites, the small coves of fine sand, and a breathtaking panorama of the Rhuys peninsula from Pointe de Nioul. If the coastal path is reserved for pedestrians, the circuits inside the island can be covered on foot or by bike. Even opt for a guided excursion by minibus from Easter to All Saints’ Day.

Hiking trails

Four circuits marked with signs on the ground offer you different options, indicated on the map of the island available at the tourist information office, with indications of distance and average round trip time:

- 2 km green circuit towards the town center (20 min on foot, 10 min by bike)
- 5 km yellow circuit towards the tip of Trec’h in the north (1 hour 30 minutes on foot, 45 minutes by bike)
- 6 km red circuit towards the Pointe de Brouël to the east (2 hours on foot, 1 hour by bike)
- 10 km blue circuit towards the tip of Penhap in the south (3h30 on foot, 1h30 by bike)

From the pier at Pointe de Toulindac, reach the must-see sites of Île aux Moines, from the large beach to the lively town center. The wild points at the ends of the island promise sumptuous panoramas, and the paths reveal the island's small heritage, from dolmens to fountains and chapels. Île aux Moines remains accessible all year round with a direct maritime shuttle from the continent. In season, several companies offer cruises in the Gulf of Morbihan with a stopover on Île aux Moines.
